Requests for STEM Sponsorship

Following are Requests for STEM Sponsorship from STEM 16 Educators. The list is current as of October 15, 2013.

Mad About STEM 2012 (MAS) : REQUEST = $3,000 : CONTACT = BrendaConway - brenda.conway2@gmail.com or Dianne Clowes - dclowes@gmail.com

MAS is an after-school outreach program and a professional learning platform for Spotsylvania County teachers. The program is designed to increase student interest in science, technology, engineering and math fields as well as provide professional learning with embedded coaching for your teachers. Last year MAS ran in three middle schools impacting 6 classrooms and reaching 600 students.  The program was funded through NASA Summer of Innovation (SOI)  grant and SCS Office of Professional Development.   We were not able to get outside funding for the program this year but teachers are very interested in continuing the program.  Based on the overwhelming student interest last year we believe the program should continue this year but need financial support.
The program has been highlighted by Virginia School Board Association 2012 and asked to present best practices at the Virginia School Board Association Conference 2013.  The program was also highlighted at the NSTA STEM Conference in Atlantic City 2012 and was an element in Ni River Middle School being selected as a 2012 Intel School of Distinction for Science.
Our goal to is to build sustainability for MAS 2013 by growing the program one school a year.  This year’s goal is to offer the MAS 2013 at four Spotsylvania County middle schools.
The total cost of MAS 2013 per school is $1,250.00 for a total of $5,000.
The budget  includes:
a. materials for the professional learning
b. materials for the after-school
c. materials for classroom implementation.
d. teacher stipend for professional learning
e. teacher stipend for after-school programming.
We have written an Spotsylvania County IDEA grant for $2,000 to underwrite costs but need an additional $3,000 or $750.00 per school to reach our goal.
We are asking business partners to fund a school as well as visit and participate in the activities.
